About David Flett
David Flett’s formal education included 2 years studying film animation at Sheridan Community College in Oakville Ontario. This led to his work as an animator with Sesame Street shorts, TV commercials and the Flintstones in Montreal and Toronto, then 3 years on a feature film.
He continued his education by returning to school to study classical fine art, drawing and two intensive study periods of human anatomy. He later honed his skills in commercial art, developing various illustration techniques and creating storyboards for television commercials and film scripts.
To further expand his skills he undertook a concentrated study of a classical painting course learning techniques from the Angel Academy of Art in Florence, Italy, which promotes the lost lessons of the old painting masters of Europe.
This led to painting people and landscapes and a season of painting portraits of travelers during a Caribbean cruise, as well as live portraits on the west coast of Sri Lanka.
He now paints the occasional portrait on commission and studio finished works usually involving people in familiar settings and landscapes. These are usually inspired from a small “plein air” work painted in one day on location outside.
David Flett lives and paints from his studio in the Kawartha’s and is enjoying his chosen Kawartha lifestyle.
